Our site has annual articles (such as a payment calendar and an announcement of our annual conference). Is it better to keep all the old blog articles available and searchable, redirect them to the most current year's entry, or something else entirely?

My instinct is to have a permanent redirect to the newest article.

Canonical tag isn't likely to have the effect you want here. Search engines expect (require) that conicalised pages be essentially identical to each other or they will likely ignore the canonical "suggestion". Identical meaning essentially word for word, except for perhaps word order, like on parameter-sorted product category p[ages.

In my experience, EGOL's solution is vastly superior. Create a permanent page for each, then find all the old related blog posts and redirect them to the permanent page to harness whatever authority those pages have for the new one. That way all further authority to the same page year after year, instead of being diffused amongst many weak separate pages.

        Paul

Being in a similar situation, I would recommend creating annual blog posts and using canonical tagging. Then, in the previous year's version, putting a link at the top to the current year.

          For example:

          Top 5 Crickets in 2016

Thank you so much for visiting our 2016 page. For a more up to date version see our [link] Top 5 Crickets in 2017 page.

This way you get the best of both worlds without having to put in a redirect.

I would make a permanent page.

If you want to preserve the historic information, make a new page for it... or a new page for each year... and link to them from the permanent page.

Don't do redirects unless you have to.

Is it ok to have two blogs for my website?

Hi Pep's The blog for my website is integrated, but does not have a URL that matches the text. The company I use for my site say that it can't be changed. Basically it displays numbers instead of text in the url. So I thought, what about starting another blog as well as the original. Would this have any effects on my SEO, negative or positive? Any advice greatly appreciated! 🙂

At what point to stop comments on a blog? Do too many comments hurt the page?

I have a page that's ranking pretty well, and driving sales.  That page is starting to get 10+ comments per day and is starting to get quite long.  I was wondering if there is a point where I should disable the comments?  My gut tells me that people interacting with the page, and Google seeing responses with the users SHOULD be a good thing not bad.  But, then I think that a majority of the content of the page is no longer the article, but the comments. All the comments are good, non spammy and directly related to the topic.  People just asking questions, etc.  Good engagement, I should be happy right?

How Are You Handling Blog Posts/Author Pages when Employees Leave the Company?

What do you believe to be the best approach in handling blog content for employees once they have left the company? We don’t want to remove the blog posts so they need to stay, but then there are the author pages. This gets tricky because the CMS ties the blog post to the author. One approach might be to change the author’s name to the Company’s name to get around author pages for people no longer with the company. It’s kind of tricky because the blog posts won’t have the same credibility if they don’t have a person’s name/photo associated with the post.  We could leave the blogger’s page and list him as a “Contributing Author” once he’s left the company. Thoughts?

How many articles are ok to publish a day on my website blog?

I have a blog on my website which is a part of the website. Currently I publish one article a day. Is it ok if I increase it to 2 a day? Is there any limitation in order not look negative to Google

              Locating Guest Blogging Niches

Hey Folks, Does anybody have advice on tools I could use to locate blogs on specific topics? My plan is to approach the webmasters and offer guest blogging services. I know I could just do a google search for something like "KEYWORD blogs" but I thought I'd see if there is anything more sophisticated out there. Thanks, Rich

How many categories should you have within a blog / Wordpress Site for SEO?

Hi Guys I am just wondering whether or not for SEO purposes it is better to have a small number of categories for your blog posts to fit into as opposed to numerous ones.  The reason I ask is that I have one site which is fairly new to the search engines - 8 months old which has 7 general categories within the blog for instance "rail contractors", "railway construction" "airport construction" etc   I have another site which is 10 years old which has built up 25 different types of categories for instance brand design, brand development, brand management (i guess you could put all these under 1 category "branding"?  We've been writing lots of press for both sites... yet the younger site is getting more coverage on Google page 1.  Would this be because the blogs / press are more concentrated under a specific category as opposed to being spread thinly throughout the site? Any help would be appreciated. Debs 🙂
